Instead of Joe giving the mom his gift, he says his gift is half of the scrubbing pail. He does this so Nick doesn’t look bad. It shows that he cares more about others than himself. This shows the love described in 1 Corinthians 13 because it says love doesn’t look out for it’s own interests.
