A literary device that refers to the use of figurative language to evoke a sensory experience or create a picture with words for a reader.

A person, object, image, word, or event that takes on one or more meanings beyond its literal meaning.

A figure of speech comparing two unlike things using the words :like: or "as."

A method of narration that describes happenings in the flow of thoughts in the minds of the characters.

A common figure of speech that makes a comparison by directly relating one thing to another unrelated thing.

Is fiction and poetry that focuses on the characters, dialect, customs, topography, mannerisms, and other features particular to a specific region.

The language used by the people of a specific area, class, district, or any other group of people.

Creating characters that are believable and realistic -- characters that make us respond to them as real people.
