Is doing project a type of testing? Why?
Yes? Because it results in evaluation.
In the motion "That we would ban plastic", team NEG says that their exclusiveness is the education on using plastic correctly so that they can cause less harm to the environment than using fabric bags. Is team NEG correct? Why?
Yes! Because team AFF would not allow plastic bags so they wouldn't teach citizens how to use plastic bags.
What does banning mean?
Not allowing something to happen. Violations would face punishment.
Are only teachers have the ability to evaluate students? Why or why not?
Nope! Students' ability can be evaluated by many other factors.
What does "exclusiveness" mean in debate?
The condition or quality that is provided by only one side in the debate.
Is banning and abolishing similar? Why?
Yes! Basically they both want to stop something from happening or continuing.
Aside from tests and teachers, who or what else can be used to measure students' ability?
The students themselves, when taught properly, can perform self-assessment.
Why exclusiveness is important in a debate?
Because your team is proving something that the opponent team can only rebut but cannot replace. If they miss the rebuttal, you will have full points.
Why shouldn't we discuss about the pros and cons of the subject of the ban?
Because even if that subject is good but as long as the ban would bring more benefits, we would ban it anyway.
If self-assessment can be taught, why don't school allow students to assess themselves?
Because of the competition between students, schools afraid that they will cheat so a third party is needed.
What is the exclusiveness of team AFF in the motion "That we would ban testing"?
Only team AFF can talk about the benefits of not having a test.
Give an example of something deemed good but the ban would bring more benefits?
Chewing gum in public places. Scientifically talking, chewing gum helps the brain stays active but by banning it, public places got cleaner and the janitors are freed from removing gums on the streets.
If a school chooses to rely only on students' self-assessment with no testing or teachers, how to design the assessment for it?
Students cross-assessment or eliminating competition by allowing students to choose the classes they want to be in.
How to rebut an "exclusiveness" from a team? Eg: Team AFF on the motion "That parents should be allowed to read their children's diary" said that only their team can provide protection for the child.
Prove that either such "exclusiveness" is untrue in the moment or it is not mutually exclusive i.e your team can achieve the same benefit/harm as well.
Eg: Team AFF's protection is (i) untrue because parents reading children's diary doesn't mean they know what danger their children might be in and if it's serious than police is a better option; also (ii) team NEG can also provides protection without reading the children's diary.
Can there be a ban that only brings benefits? What is that?
Any ban would have a downside. People choose to ban because the ban is necessary of the moment to deter harms.
