However, after traveling to France to the  Institut National des Jeunes Sourds de Paris,  they found what they were looking for.  It was accompanied by one of the best teachers in Europe.  They established the first deaf school in the United States, known as the American School for the Deaf, in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1817.
