A word used instead of a noun or phrase.

Affect: influence, sway, change
What does precise mean?
It means exact.
What is a thesis statement?
Thesis Statement: The basic point you are trying to get across.

What do you do when you revise?
It means more than just correcting spelling, you have to elaborate on parts of the plot that are thin, you have to add more details, just revise parts of your writing that you might need to.

It means to stick to something.
What does generate mean?
It means to cause; produce; create.

What is evidence and what is inference?
Evidence: examples, quotes and facts from the text that supports an idea.
Inference: Conclusions and interpretations you reach based on the evidence.
What are some strategies to use for writing?
There are many, but one of the main ones is to show, not tell.
What does painstaking mean?
It means extremely careful.
What does allegiance mean?
It means loyalty.

What does context mean?
It means the words, phrases, or passages that come before and after a particular word or passage in a speech or piece of writing and help to explain its full meaning.

It means to avoid or to escape.

What is the theme and what is it not?
Theme is: the central underlying and controlling idea of the work, but it is not expressed in a single word, and it is not the moral or the conflict of the story.
