What may happen during each phase of a generalized seizure?

Aura: some individuals with epilepsy will sense that they are about to have a seizure by a smell, sound, or feeling

Tonic: Sudden loss of consciousness. The body becomes rigid for up to a minute, and the face and neck may turn bluish.

Clonic: Convulsions occur. Breathing is noisy, frothy saliva may appear around the mouth and the teeth may grind.

Postictal: After the seizure ends, the patient will have a period when they feel sleepy and confused. Varies in length with each patient.
