What is the skeletal system?
The skeletal system is our body and joints together that help us move, stand up and protects our organs
Why are joints important?
Because they allow us to move
Name the three functions of the Skeletal System
Shape, support and protection
Skip the rope
our knees and wrists
Name three of the longest bones
Arms and legs: Femur, Tibia and Humerus
What are joints?
Joints are the areas where bones meet and allow us to move in different ways.
They are connections between two or more bones.
The Skeletal System is made up of two things:
Bones and joints
Running
Our knees and hips
Name three of the shortest bones
Fingers, wrists and ears
What are movable joints? where can we find them?
They allow the most movement. They are in many parts of our body, such as elbows, knees, fingers, arms, etc.
What does the Skeletal system protect? give three examples
Protects the organs such as lungs, heart, brain etc.
Writing
our wrists and elbows
Where are the irregular bones?
Are in our face and vertebral column
What are partially movable joints? where do we find them?
Joints that allow only some movements.
Vertebral column and pelvis
Explain the shape and support functions of the Skeletal System
It gives the "bodyshape" to our body. otherwise we would be like jelly
It gives support to our body keeping our internal organs in place.
Swimming
Almost our whole skeletal system
Name the flat bones
Hips (pelvis), ribs and skull
What are unmovable joints? where can we find them?
Joints that do not allow any movement. We can find them in the brain
What would happen to our body if we didn't have bones?
We would not be able to stand up, or hold ourselves up!
Tennis
Our knees, hips and arms
