I show up as pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. excess oil, dead skin cells, bacteria, inflammation, and hormonal changes can contribute to me.

Who am I?

What is Acne?

100

The sun may feel good, but too much of it brings me out! I can leave behind uneven pigmentation, rough texture, fine lines, and premature aging after repeated UV exposure.

Who am I?

What is Sun damage?

100

Find me in the T-zone! Excess oil can make me more noticeable, while aging and sun damage can make me appear larger. Estheticians examine my size when analyzing your skin.

Who am I?

What is Enlarged Pores?

100

You’ll notice me as redness on the skin. I happen when increased blood flow comes to the area, often because of inflammation.

 Who am I?

What is Erythema?

100

I don’t bounce back like I used to! As collagen and elastin decrease, the skin can become less firm and may not return to its shape as quickly. Aging and sun exposure can contribute to me.

Who am I?

What is Poor Elasticity?

100

I’m missing water, not necessarily oil! I may feel tight and show fine lines. Environment, certain medications, topical products, and aging can all contribute to me.

Who am I?

What is Dehydrated skin?

200

When I'm open, I appear black. When I'm closed, I appear white. I form when a hair follicle becomes clogged with excess oils and dead skin cells.

Who am I?

What are comedones?

200

Hormones may invite me, but the sun can make me stay! I appear as brown or gray-brown patches, commonly on the face.

Who am I?

What is Melasma?

200

I make the skin look shiny and oily. I happen when the sebaceous glands produce too much oil, or sebum. Hormones can also play a part.

Who am I?

What is Seborrhea?

200

I can make the skin feel red, itchy, burning, or uncomfortable. Friction, harsh products, or an imbalance in the skin’s microbiome can cause me.

Who am I?

What is Irritation?

200

I may feel rough, dry, or scaly and usually show up on areas that have seen a lot of sun. Chronic sun exposure is my main cause, and I should not be ignored.

 Who am I?

What is Actinic Keratosis?

200

I may look dull, clogged, and congested. Dead skin cells and oil can build up on me, leaving the skin looking like it needs some help clearing things out.

Who am I?

What is Asphyxiated Skin?

300

I am tiny, firm, white bumps that may look like whiteheads, but don’t be fooled! I form when keratin becomes trapped beneath the surface of the skin.

Who am I?

What is milia?

300

I’m a mix of colors and vessels! Years of sun exposure may leave me with reddish-brown discoloration, visible blood vessels, and changes to the skin, commonly along the sides of the neck and upper chest.

Who am I?

What is Poikiloderma of Civatte?

300

I happen when too many dead skin cells build up instead of shedding normally. The buildup can clog the pores and cause comedones.

Who am I?

What is Hyperkeratinization?

300

I react easily! Certain products, weather changes, heat, or a weakened skin barrier can cause me to sting, burn, itch, or turn red.

Who am I?

What is Sensitivity?

300

We come with changes in the skin, but we aren’t exactly the same. Who are we?

1. I naturally happen over time. Thinner skin, collagen and bone loss, dryness, smoking, and photo damage can make my changes more noticeable.

2. I am the fine lines and creases you can actually see. Loss of collagen and elastin, repeated facial movements, sun exposure, and aging can bring me out.

Name us in order.

1. What is aging?
2. What are wrinkles?

300

You might notice me on the chin, upper lip, or other areas as coarse, dark hair growth. Hormonal changes and higher androgen levels can bring me around, and you may have heard about me when learning about PCOS.

 Who am I?

What is Hirsutism?

400

1. I am a small, red raised, inflamed lesion with no visible pus. I form when a clogged follicle becomes inflamed.

2. I am an inflamed raised lesion with a white or yellow pus-filled center. I develop when inflammation and immune cells create a collection of pus.

3. I am a large, deep lesion beneath the skin that may be painful and can cause scaring. I develop when inflammation occurs deeper within a clogged follicle and surrounding tissue, and I can leave scars behind.

Who are we?

1. What is a Papule

2. What is a Pustule

3. What is a Cyst

400

Who are we? We are complete opposites!

1. I cause areas of the skin to become darker because of increased pigment.

2. I cause areas of the skin to become lighter because of decreased pigment.

Name us in order.

  1. What is hyperpigmentation?
  2. What is hypopigmentation?

400

We may both cause changes in the skin, but we’re not the same. Who are we?

1. I happen when too much keratin builds up and causes the outer layer of the skin to become thicker.

2. I cause small, often yellow or flesh-colored bumps when the oil glands become enlarged. I am more common as the skin ages.

Name us in order.

1. What is hyperkeratosis?
2. What is sebaceous hyperplasia?

400

Who Are We?

We can all cause visible changes to the skin, but we’re very different. Who are we?

1. I cause redness with visible capillaries, especially around the cheeks and nose. I happen when small capillaries become weakened or damaged.

2. I look like tiny red lines or “spider veins.” I happen when small blood vessels near the surface of the skin become widened or damaged.

3. I am a contagious virus that can cause cold sores or fever blisters around the mouth. An active outbreak is a contraindication for a facial. I can spread through close contact, such as kissing or sharing items that touch the mouth.

Name us in order.

1. What is couperose skin?
2. What is telangiectasia?
3. What is herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1)?

400

We all leave visible changes on the skin, but for different reasons. Who are we?

1. I look like blackheads or clogged pores and develop in areas that have had years of sun exposure.

2. I look like lines or streaks in the skin. Rapid stretching or expansion of the connective tissue can cause me.

3. I am left behind as the skin heals after an injury, acne, wound, or other damage.

Name us in order.

1. What are solar comedones?
2. What are striae (stretch marks)?
3. What are scars?

400

I come in many shapes and sizes. I may appear as a bump, lump, or raised area on the skin. Some of me may be harmless, but if I change in size, shape, color, or appearance, I may need to be checked by a doctor.
