To treat others how you want to be treated.

What is self-control?

-when you are able to control/manage your emotions, especially in situations where you are really angry or sad.

-when you are able to think before you act or speak so that you can make the right decisions

-when you are able to use patience and wait your turn

What is active listening?

ACTIVE LISTENING means that you try to understand what the person is saying, rather than just hearing the words that they are saying. 

ACTIVE LISTENERS provide verbal and nonverbal feedback to show that they are listening (head nodding, asking questions, “mhmm”, etc.)

What is effective communication?

Effective communication is being able to share your thoughts and feelings with someone in a clear, kind, and respectful way.

What are some examples of having good social skills?

Being respectful, being kind, emapthy, active listening, self-control, etc.

Things like eye contact, head nodding, saying "mhmmm"...ways to show people we are listening without actually using any words.

When something is effective, that means it is successful in doing what it is supposed to do.

*Example: “The calm corner can be effective for those who are feeling nervous, sad, or anxious.”

Why is being an active listener important?

-You may learn something new or important that you need to know

-It helps you learn about different people's perspectives

-It makes others feel cared for and respected

-It helps you to make and keep friends in the future

What does 'communication' mean?

Communication means exchanging or sending information/news. 

*Example: Face-to-face conversations, cell phones, laptops, and writing letters are all ways of communication where you can talk to people and share information.
