Ppl in the north did not accept slavery they had large cities and factories instead. The north was a free state.

the ppl in the south thought they needed slavery bc they needed ppl to work on their plantations. South did not pay slaves and there were very few slaves that were free.

All immigrants did backbreaking diffulcult work during the canal age and if you didnt die you would live in a home along the canal you built. And unlike slave they did get paid
