Introducing Sociology
The sociological perspective is not focused on the individual instead it is focused on this.
What are groups?
Not having enough money to pay for life's necessities.
What is absolute poverty?
The distribution of power in a society would be a focus of this perspective.
What is the conflict perspective?
All the economic resources (house, car, stock) a person has, minus all the money they owe to others.
What is wealth?
Looking at the contributions of each part of society and how each part works together to create a whole, would be a focus of this perspective.
What is functionalism?
DAILY DOUBLE
Another name for a closed class system, where social status is inherited and cannot be changed.
What is a caste system?
Looking at how people communicate through shared words, gestures and the meanings we give to physical objects, would be a focus of this perspective.
What is symbolic interactionism?
An example would be a factory worker's son who does well in school and earns a PhD in sociology and becomes a college professor.
What is intergenerational mobility?
Sociology is the scientific study of the underlying pattern of social relationships within a group. The pattern of social relationships is know by this term.
What is social structure?
Social stratification is ranking people by their unequal access to scarce resources. People are stratified according to these three criteria.
What are wealth, prestige and power?
