Tell the Story of Solomon becoming king (what did he ask for?)

Solomon Became King

When David had grown old, he called for his son Solomon to give him this message: “Be strong, my son, and keep your promise to the Lord to walk in His ways and obey His commandments. If you do, you will have success in everything you do, and the Lord will keep His promise to our family.”

Then David died, and Solomon became king over Israel. One night, the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream. God said, “Ask. What should I give you?”

Solomon replied, “You have shown great and faithful love to my father David because he was faithful to You and had a right heart before You. You have continued to show faithful love to him by giving him a son to sit on his throne.

“You have now made me king in my father’s place. But I have no experience in leadership. I am younger than most of the people I lead. So, give me a heart to judge the people and tell the difference between good and evil.”

The Lord was pleased with Solomon’s request. He said, “Because you have asked for wisdom to lead well instead of long life or riches, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and understanding heart. You will be wiser than anyone who has ever lived before. In addition, I will give you what you did not ask for: both riches and honor. If you walk in my ways and keep my commands, I will give you a long life.”

Solomon woke up and realized it was a dream. He went to Jerusalem, stood before the ark of the Lord’s covenant, and presented burnt offerings.

Tell the story of Solomon built the Temple

Solomon had been king for four years when he began to build the temple for the Lord. He planned to build a big, beautiful building made of the finest materials for God to dwell permanently with His people.

God said to Solomon, “If you obey my commandments, I will fulfill my promise to you that I made to your father David. I will dwell with my people and not abandon them.”

The ark of the Lord’s covenant would be in the innermost part of the temple. Solomon overlaid everything in this part of the temple with pure gold, including the altar. He also made two huge statues of cherubim (a type of angel) that were overlaid with gold. It was a beautiful space for the ark of the Lord’s covenant.

Solomon hired a man named Hiram to create objects out of pure bronze for the temple. Hiram made pillars, a large basin, water carts, and more out of bronze. Everything he made was beautifully decorated with pomegranates, lilies, lions, oxen, and angels.

Solomon gathered all of Israel to bring the ark of the Lord’s covenant into the temple, to the most holy place beneath the wings of the cherubim. When the priests came out of the holy place, the glory of the Lord filled the temple. Solomon said, “I have built an exalted temple for You, God, a place for You to live forever.”

King Solomon turned around and blessed all of Israel, saying, “The Lord has fulfilled what He promised. I sit on the throne of Israel, and I have built the temple for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.”

Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord, and spread out his hands toward heaven, and prayed to God:

“Lord God of Israel, there is no god like You.

You have kept what You promised to my father David.

“But will God live on earth?

Even the highest heaven cannot contain You,

Much less this temple I have built.

Please hear the prayers of Your people

When they pray toward this place.

May You hear in Your dwelling place in heaven and answer.

“When Your people sin against You—

For there is no one who does not sin—

When they return to You with all their heart and all their soul,

May You forgive Your people who sinned against You

And may You grant them compassion.”

Tell the story of the Queen of Sheba

The queen of Sheba heard about King Solomon’s fame and how the Lord had given him great wisdom. So, she came to test Solomon with riddles. The queen of Sheba arrived in Jerusalem with a large group of people and camels carrying spices, gold, and precious stones.

The queen came and spoke to Solomon about everything that was on her mind. Solomon answered all of her questions; nothing was too difficult to explain to her. When the queen of Sheba observed all of Solomon’s wisdom, his impressive palace, the wonderful food he served, the houses of his servants, how well dressed and behaved his servants were, and the sacrifices made at the Lord’s temple, she was amazed.

The queen said to Solomon, “The report I heard in my own country about your wisdom is true. But I didn’t believe what I heard until I came and saw it with my own eyes. It turns out you have even more wisdom and wealth than I had heard about. Your people must be happy. Your servants are blessed to stand in your presence and hear your wisdom. May your God be blessed, for He delighted in you and put you on the throne of Israel, because He loves His people. He has made you king to carry out justice and righteousness.”

Then the queen gave King Solomon four and a half tons of gold, many spices, and precious stones. In addition, she gave him a large amount of wood which Solomon used to make steps for the Lord’s temple and Solomon’s palace. He also used the wood to make lyres and harps for the singers.

King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba everything she asked for. Then she and her servants returned to their own country.

Tell about Proverbs and Ecclesiastes

King Solomon wrote many proverbs. Proverbs are short sayings that give wisdom and help people live in ways that are right and good. By following these proverbs, people can gain knowledge and wisdom and receive guidance for life.

The book of Proverbs is filled with many of King Solomon’s wise sayings. King Solomon taught people to fear the Lord and trust in Him. He said fearing God was the beginning of knowledge. He also wrote that it is foolish to hate wisdom
and discipline.

Solomon said it is wise to keep God’s commandments, for they will bring a long, full life. He taught about the importance of being loyal and faithful, and how this will give you a good reputation with God and people.

Another proverb Solomon wrote was, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not depend on your own understanding.” Solomon said you should look to God in everything you do, and He will guide you. “Don’t think of yourself as wise,” Solomon wrote. “Instead fear the Lord and turn away from evil.”

Solomon also said, “Honor the Lord with everything you own and with the first produce of your entire harvest; then you will experience great blessing.”

Some of Solomon’s proverbs were warnings, such as “Do not hate the Lord’s instruction, and do not hate His discipline. The Lord disciplines the one He loves, just as a father disciplines the son he loves.”

Solomon’s proverbs show there are two ways to live: with God’s wisdom or without God’s wisdom. He wrote, “I am teaching you the way of wisdom; hold on to God’s commands and don’t let go for they are your life. Don’t walk in the path of the wicked. Turn away from it for the wicked love violence, and their path is dark. But stay on the path of the righteous where light always shines brighter and brighter.”
