Sally has had her hand up a long time because she knows the answer to the teacher's questions but the teacher doesn't call on her. How is she feeling? What should she do?
Praise yourself, "I had the right answer too. I did a good job!". Stay calm and wait, "Aww, next time."
"I'm losing." Red and Wally are playing a board game. Wally is losing badly and feels like giving up. He's getting quite frustrated. What should Wally do?
Be a good sport. "Well, I guess I'm not very good at this game but I'll keep trying."
Give a compliment. "You sure are good at this game."
Use superpowers!
There are some kids at Wally's school who call him names, say nasty things about his family, and take his lunch sometimes. They threatened to beat him up if he told anyone. What should Wally do?
Have courage and tell an adult. "Some of the kids are calling me names at recess, stealing my money, and running after me on the way home from school. What should I do? Teacher, "I'm so glad you told me. I will arrange for your to be safe and we'll stop this from happening again."
"I can't do it." Sally finds it hard to read and write. She is slow and makes many spelling mistakes. How does she feel? What should she do?
Keep trying. "I'm not a quitter. I have to keep trying an it will get easier some day."
Ask for help. "Do you know to spell the world dinosaur?"
"I'm so mad." Sally just yelled at Molly for dropping her special toy on the floor and breaking it. How does Sally feel? How does Molly feel? What should they each do now?
Apologize.
Offer to fix it.
Several girls are playing hopscotch at recess. Molly wants to play with them but they tell her she can't play with them. How does she feel? What should she do?
Accept "no" for an answer. "That's okay. Maybe we can play another time."
Try again later. "Can I play later maybe if you want another player?"
"I want it now." Wally's classmate Red has been using the computer for a long time and he doesn't want to share. Wally wants a turn. How is Wally feeling? What should he do?
Ask politely. "I'd like a turn on the computer. Will you be finished soon?"
Watch and wait. "I'll wait till you're finished."
Red is being teased by a classmate and called a name for being clumsy and shy and different from the others. How is he feeling? What should he do?
Distract yourself.
Ignore them.
Use my superpowers!
Say, "Please stop. It's bothering me. Thank you."
Stay calm and ignore him. "I'm going to ignore him. I'm doing well at staying calm. He'll soon stop."
Tell the teacher.
Sally sees her friend Molly crying because she was left out of a game and even bullied by some bigger kids on the playground. What should Sally do?
Tell the teacher. "Mrs. Day, some kids are picking on Molly and she is crying." "Thanks for telling me. You're a good friend."
Be loyal to your friend. "I don't think it's fair to leave Molly out of the game, and I think she should be able to play."
Molly has a big fight in the playground with other children because they won't let her play with them. How does she feel? What should she do?
Use superpowers! Take deep breaths.
Walk away. "This is getting worse and I need to walk away and calm down."
"I want to play." It is free choice time. Some kids are playing with a board game and Wally wants to play, but they are halfway through the game. What should Wally do?
Watch and wait.
Ask to take a turn. "Can I take turns with someone to play?"
