How did New Orleans become a blend of cultures?

Before Europeans arrived, the area that is now New Orleans was first settled by the Woodland and Mississippian Indian tribes. 

The French settled the city in 1718, and the Spanish took control of it in the 1760s. The U.S. bought it in 1803 and later Americans brought African slaves to the area.  

As a result, the city is a blend of American Indian, French, Spanish, and African cultures.

How do the landscapes and cultures of the SE vary?

There are Atlantic Coast states, Gulf Coast states, and Inland South states.  Each of these areas is made up of its own landscape and culture.  The Inland South states have Appalachian and Ozark Mountains which makes this area more mountainous than the other two.  The fact that Appalachia was isolated in their early history led to this area developing its own culture.
