Students’ responses will vary. Possible response: Deserts cover nearly the entire area of the Arabian Peninsula, and this area falls within a very dry, or arid, climate zone. As such the area receives less than 10 inches of rain during the year. The summers are brutally hot in the desert areas. In contrast, the mountainous areas in Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan have continental climates. In those areas, temperatures vary greatly between summer and winter. Glaciers can be found among the mountain peaks.
