Lame duck 

On February 6, Americans celebrate Lame Duck Day. "Lame duck" is an informal nickname for presidents and politicians who have lost the next election, but are still forced to remain in office until the end of their term. In American political jargon, the phrase appeared in the middle of the XIX century. Also, lame ducks are sometimes called teachers in educational institutions or managers and managers of companies who should quit soon, but are still working out their last days at their workplaces.

Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake

It is held on the last Monday of May in Gloucester, England. The contestants climb the hill and, after the signal, rush after the rolling cheese head. Whoever crosses the finish line first and grabs the cheese gets it as a prize. Despite the very high level of injuries, the holiday attracts a huge number of tourists who want to take part.

The origin of the holiday is unknown, but the tradition of its holding dates back about 200 years and is becoming more popular every year.

The Day of the Dead

The Day of the Dead is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1st and 2nd, although other days may be included depending on the locality, such as October 31st or November 6th. This is widely observed in Mexico. According to legend, these days the souls of deceased relatives visit their home. Traditions associated with the holiday include the creation of private altars in honor of the deceased, including sugar skulls, verbena, favorite foods and drinks of the deceased and visiting the grave with these gifts.

The encierro festival

The encierro festival is something similar to a bullfight. Bulls run through the narrow city streets, and people run away from them. Then the bulls are launched into the square, where the bullfights begin.


Previously, the streets are fenced, at any moment the participant can jump over the fence and exit the game. Such a celebration and games are very dangerous for the participants
