Mass and Motion
100

The force that pulls all objects towards the Earth

Gravity

100

What is on the x-axis in a motion graph?

Time

100

Hitting a baseball is an example of what type of force?

Push

100

Riding your bike on sand is an example of what?

Friction

100

What is the difference between mass and weight?

Weight is dependent on gravity, mass doesn't change

200

Force that slows down moving objects

Friction

200

What is on the y-axis in a motion graph?

Distance

200

Zipping up a coat is an example of what?

Pull force

200

Getting pushed on a bike is an example of what?

Unbalanced Force

200

If I were to take a mirror and break into 10 pieces, what would change about the mass?

Nothing. The mass would be the same. If I put the mirror on a scale before I broke it and after, it would weight the same.

300

The rate at which someone or something is able to move

Speed

300

A straight line in a distance-time graph represents what?

Constant speed

300

Two teams pulling on a rope in Tug-of-war and the rope is not moving in either direction. This is an example of what?

Balanced Forces

300

In the vehicle experiment, what caused the vehicle to move? (Use science terms)

Pull motion, created by gravity, the string and the washers attached to the string.

300

Explain how the blocks in the vehicle experiment affected the vehicle's motion

The blocks added more mass to the vehicle. This made it more difficult for the vehicle to move.

400

A change in position

Motion

400

In a motion graph a horizontal line means what?

The object was not moving, or the object was at rest

400

Forces that cause change in the motion of an object

Unbalanced forces

400

What keeps a cup on a table? (2 things)

1) Gravity pulling down on the cup

2) The force from the table pushing on the cup.

Three bowling balls are rolling down a hill. One is 10 pounds. One is 12 pounds. One is 14 pounds. Which one is hardest to stop? What would be the difference between Tatiana trying to stop it, and Mr. Pressly trying too?  Explain. (Science terms)

The 14 pound bowling ball. It has more mass, therefore it will require more force to stop it.

It would be easier for Mr. Pressly because he has more mass and therefore it would require less force.

500

The position an object starts at before force is applied.

Fixed point

500
In a distance-time graph, an upward curve means what?

The object is increasing in speed

500

What type of force moves the object towards the source of the force?

Pull force

500

Both Jayda and Yakiyah want Chick-fil-A. Jayda gets a 50 ft head start. Jayda is travelling at 35 mph, and Yakiyah is travelling at 45 mph. Draw or explain what the motion graph would look like.

Eventually Yakiyah's line would catch up to Jayda's and they would intersect, because she is travelling at a faster rate.

If Kennard and Frii are both trying to race to push a bookcase across the room. How can they make the bookcase go faster? (Use science terms)

By taking books out of the bookcase, they can decrease the mass, making it easier to push.
