This should be considered as a placement option for every student with an IEP.

What is regular education (with supplementary aids and services)?

100

Invitations to participate should be issued this many weeks before the IEP is due.

What is three?

100

When a student is moving to a more restrictive placement, this is required.

What is a re-evaluation report?

100

IEP progress reporting based strictly on a student's report card or grades in regular education is not a good practice because it overlooks this component of a SMART IEP goal.

IEP goals should be SPECIFIC in the skills that they target (example identifying the main idea in a grade level text).

100

In the SMART Goal template the M stands for_________.

What is measureable?

200

It is district practice to issue a NOREP annually at this meeting.

What is an IEP meeting?

200

When a family has not returned an invitation sent home with the student or through regular US mail, this person will send a certified invitation.

Who is Mrs. Thomas?

200

A student who does not have an emotional disturbance can receive emotional support services because special education services are tied to this and NOT disability categories.

What is a need?

200

A progress report contains no numerical measure of the student's progress. Instead the special education teacher indicates that the "student made limited progress due to lack of effort". To ensure a "reasonable calculation", the team should explore this next.

The IEP team should explore if additional IEP services are needed to improve access to the curriculum. This may include a discussion on executive functioning skills such as task initiation or positive behavior supports to increase student engagment.

200

A student's IEP history shows that goals have been recycled year, after year. This indicates a problem with this area in the SMART goal format.

The goal was not ATTAINABLE with the provided specially designed instruction and special education programming.

NOREPS for ESY must be issued by this date.

What is March 31st?

300

A student must be invited to participate in their IEP meeting at this age.

What is 14?

300

Special education is not a location and not a curriculum it is a _____________.

What is a service?
300

A progress report contains no numerical measure of the student's progress. Instead the special education teacher indicates that the "student made limited progress due to lack of effort". This language creates a liability for the district because it _____________.

The language is based on opinion not observation.  "Effort" can not be observed.

*How could the teacher better describe what is happening with this student?

300

A special education teacher did an excellent job defining the goal according to the SMART criteria, especially with the time bound portion of the goal, indicating that the goal would be met when the student independently executed the target skills over four consecutive charting opportunities. The student has now met their goal. This excellent special education teacher does this next.

The goal has been met, so the special education teacher documents this using data and contacts other members of the IEP team to revise the IEP and develop a new goal.

400

In addition to regular education with supplementary aids and services, it is a good practice to also consider this option on each NOREP.

What is a more restrictive placement?

400

An IEP meeting should include the family, the special education teacher(s), related service providers, and who?

Regular education teachers

(This is an area identified for improvement)

400

A student is three grade levels behind in ELA. With significant accommodations the special education teacher believes that the student can participate in grade level ELA. At the end of the year, WRAT data shows little growth. In hindsight it appears that this does not meet the criteria to be considered a REASONABLE CALCULATION for this reason.

The special education program did not include any direct skill building on the student's instructional level to target deficit skills which were no longer instructed in the regular education curriculum.

400

A student over 14 years of age should have measurable IEP goals in this area (and three sub areas).

What is transition?

Sub Areas: Independent Living Skills/ Community Participation, Post Secondary Education & Training, Employment

400

IEP goals should be correlated to _____________.

What are grade level standards?

500

The information in the most recent NOREP must match this section of the IEP.

A LEA representative is required to attend each IEP meeting for this reason.

There must be a person present at each IEP meeting who is authorized to make financial decisions on the behalf of the school district.

A high school senior has earned three math credits and three science headed into his senior year. The senior plans to take one additional science credit this year, thereby meeting the locally established criteria. Due to a specific learning disability the student continues to present with deficits in math computation. The school offers no math instruction because the student has already met the graduation requirements. The school has liability in this scenario for this reason.

The Endrew F. Supreme Court case ruled that the educational benefit must be "merely more than deminimis"

A special education teacher notes that a student is not making progress toward IEP goals for two consecutive marking periods. The special education education schedules a revision meeting to discuss the student's lack of progress. In addition to adjusting the targeted skill identified on the goal, the special education teacher also considers changes to this IEP area.

What is specially designed instruction?
