What is Context?

The relevant elements of a situation surrounding a particular sequence of communication. May be personal or cultural, physical or psychological, specific or general. In other words, all the things going on around you at the time of the communication.

Example: A person is trying to tell someone they have a crush how they feel, but they keep getting interrupted by other people coming in the room. They are constantly communicating verbally but also non-verbally, showing that communication is continuous. It is also complex because they have variables interrupting their communication. It is irreversible because now the speaker can't take it back and the receiver knows they like them. It is skill-based because the sender can take what they have learned from the situation to improve their communication skills.
