1. to keep them at the front for easy access
2. to prevent moister and mold from collecting behind the books. The gap is for AIR FLOW

REALISTIC FICTION
It is a made up story (fiction) but has realistic characters, locations and events. Example: a book about students taking a school trip to the museum.
