What is the purpose of the security training?

There is a 2% cap on the number of students able to take a STAAR Modified.
How many students are allowed to take a STAAR M?

Staff members are not permitted to view the STAAR test. (Unless you are giving an oral administration. In which case you are required to "forget" whatever you have read/viewed.)
What are the options for viewing the STAAR test?

We shred all materials that have been used by the students. (We turn in all answer documents and test booklets.)
What happens to the scratch paper, used charts, used graph paper, etc. after the STAAR?

What are the main requirements for accommodation usage on STAAR?

All staff members involved in testing sign a security oath. This includes those testing, those monitoring, and those giving restroom breaks.
Who signs an oath?

All anchor charts, posters, student aides, etc. need to be covered. The desks need to be turned around to prevent access to unauthorized materials.
What does sanitizing your classroom mean?

Making sure that the children are working in the correct section of the test, walking around frequently, checking for any irregularities, answering questions about the directions, checking to see that bubbles are dark and neat, and stray marks are erased.
What is active monitoring?

Keep your materials with you or in a locked cabinet at all times.
What do I do with my materials when we are not testing?

Individual or Small Group Instruction, Reminders to Stay on Task, Amplification Devices, Projection Devices.
What are the Type One Accomodations?

No one is allowed to talk about the contents of the STAAR test.

Each teacher needs to check and re-check the small group lists to ensure that each child has the appropriate accommodations BEFORE the day of the STAAR test.

Call room 310. Make sure all of the scantrons are clear of stray marks and are in alphabetical order. Check the demographic information. Separate the tests from the test booklets. Turn in any used scratch paper.
What do I do with my testing materials when the children are finished testing?

Manipulating Testing Materials, Oral or Signed Adminsitration, Spelling Assistance, Math Manipulatives, Calculator Devices, Basic Transcibing, SUpplemental Aides, Extra Time, Large Print, Dictioniary Use, Braille. We do not have any Type Three Accommodations on this campus. (If we did, they would require TEA approval.)
What are the Type Two Accommodations?

There are procedural irregularities and serious irregularities. (These are bad. A serious irregularity is really bad.)
What are the two types of irregularities?

We must be diligent and thorough. We must follow test protocal. We must ask questions when in doubt. We must be kind to one another. We must be calm.
What are some of the most important things to remember during STAAR testing?

Children with a documented special education disability, children with a 504 desgination, children with Dyslexia, children with English as a second language, and in some cases, children with SSC accomomdations are all eligible for STAAR accommodations.

Any student can have: Reading assistance on the 3rd grade math test, Highlighter or colored pencils, materials to minimize distractions: stress ball, headphones, etc. Read aloud to self, Translating test directions, Scratch Paper, Colored overlay, Magnifying device, Place marker Preferential seating
