What are the two things that are found in the nucleus of the atom?
What are the protons and neutrons?
100
Distance divided by Time will give you what?
What is speed?
100
During the moon phases what does the moon do first - wax or wane? Does it get bigger or smaller? Which side of the moon is lit?
What is wax, gets bigger, and right side is lit.
100
Where do hurricanes form and what type of water does it need?
What is the equator and it needs warm water? (85 degrees or above for 500 feet deep.)
100
What is mutualism?
What is two organisms that are both benefiting from the relationship? Example: The crocodile and the bird.
200
What determines how an atom will react during a chemical reaction?
What are valence electrons?
200
A change in speed by speeding up or slowing down is known as -
What is acceleration?
200
What is a spring tide and when does it occur?
What is the highest-high tide and the lowest low tide? It occurs on the full and new moon phases.
200
What is a cold front, what type of weather does it bring, and what is its symbol used on maps?
What is a cold air mass that brings lots of rain and thunderstorms, a drastic drop in temperatures, and the symbol is the triangle.
200
What is commensalism?
What is one organism in the relationship benefits while the other organism is unaffected? Example: The bird nesting in the tree.
300
What are columns and rows called on the periodic table?
What are families/groups for the columns and periods for the rows?
300
An object at rest will stay at rest an object in motion will stay in motion until an unbalanced force acts upon it is which law of motion?
What is the Law of Inertia?
300
How long does the lunar cycle take? How long does it take for the seasons to go through a complete cycle? How long does it take night and day to occur?
What is 28 or 29.5 days for the lunar cycle, 365.25 days for the seasons, and 24 hours for day/night?
300
When two air masses collide what occurs?
What is a front? Remember - the direction the symbols are pointing is the direction the front is moving.
300
What is parasitism?
What is when one organism benefits and the other organism is harmed? Parasite-host relationship Example: the Tick on the Dog
400
Are elements more alike if they are in the same family or period?
What is the family?
400
The mass of an object directly impacts the amount of force needed to accelerate an object describes which law of motion?
What is the Law of Acceleration?
400
What is the size is our sun? What type of galaxy do we live in and its name? Where would you find the sun located in our galaxy?
What is a medium sized star, spiral galaxy called the Milky Way, and its located in a spiral arm of the galaxy?
400
What is a high pressure and what type of weather conditions does it bring?
What is a high pressure of molecules at sea level that brings clear skies? Remember: wind travels in the direction of High pressure to Low pressure to equal out the atmosphere. So it goes from the H symbol (High) to the L symbol (low) on a weather map.
400
What is located at the bottom of the food web/chain and why?
What is the producers because it creates food from sunlight? We need producers in order to survive because we cannot produce our own food. Herbivores eat the producer because they eat only plants. Omnivores can also eat producers, but they also eat meat. Carnivores do not eat producers they are meat eaters only.
500
On the periodic table, where are the least reactive elements located (left or right)? What is the special name for this family of elements?
What is the right side and the special name is Noble gases? Remember: Noble gases are gases at room temperature and the most stable elements.
500
When a force is applied to an object an equal and opposite force is also exerted in return is which law of motion?
What is the Law of Action and Reaction?
500
What is a light year? If a star is bright in the sky, does that mean that it is closer to us or have more luminosity?
What is the amount of time that it takes for light to travel in one year? No, it does not mean that the star is closer. A star can be close and not be seen. It means that the star has more luminosity(brightness) to be seen from earth.
500
If the temperature dropped drastically from 80 degree to 50 degrees in Houston in the matter of 4 hours with a large amount of continuous rain fall and thunderstorms, what type of weather system would Houston be experiencing?
What is a cold front? Remember a cold front pushes a warm front up into the atmosphere because cold air is more dense. Remember the Convection Currents - Cold air sinks and warm air rises causing winds and air to move.

A volcano has erupted and magma has cooled into igneous rock. In order for an ecosystem to begin to form, what must first inhabit the area? What type of ecological succession is this example?
What are lichens? Lichens eventually break down the igneous rock into soil and allows other plants to inhabit the area. This is primary ecological succession because there is no soil present. Secondary succession occurs after forest fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, or droughts. Soil is already present and grasses and weeds begin to grow first.
