Describe a beneficial effect and a detrimental effect of having microbes in a farming system. Microbes include:

Beneficial - bacteria, yeasts and molds can be used for fermentation to preserve foods and produce alcohol. Another benefit is rumen microbes break down tough plant matter to make fatty acids for energy, and they also make protein and Vitamin B. 

Detrimental - protozoa like tapeworms can infect livestock, reducing weight gain and causing illness in the flock.
