What is the engineering design process?
The engineering design process are the steps engineers follow when creating solutions to solve a problem
Draw and explain Earth’s place in the Universe.
Our Earth is in the Solar System which is in the Milky Way Galaxy which is in the Universe.
What is the continental drift theory?
Name at least one piece of evidence that supports this theory.
The continental drift theory suggests that the continents were once joined together and have moved apart over time.
Evidence:
1 – The continents look like they would fit together like a puzzle.
2 – Fossils of the same organisms have been found on different continents.
When developing possible solutions to a problem, engineers need to consider the criteria and constraints of their design solution.
What are criteria and constraints?
Criteria = requirements
Constraints = limitations
What is gravity?
Describe how mass and distance impact an object’s gravity
An invisible force that pulls ALL objects towards each other
The more mass an object has, the stronger the gravity.
The closer (less distance) two objects are, the stronger the gravity.
Sedimentary rocks are formed by one layer of rock being added on top of another, over and over again.
What does the Law of Superposition tell us about the ages of the rock layers and fossils in sedimentary rocks?
The Law of Superposition explains the oldest rock layers and fossils are on the bottom and the younger rock layers and fossils are on the top.
Describe the following steps of the Engineering Design Process:
• Research
• Design
•Prototype
Research - gather information to develop ideas
Design - take the ideas from research and make a drawing.
Prototype - take the drawing and make a physical model
What causes the moon to look different every night?
As the moon moves around the Earth, sunlight hits different parts of the moon - which is the part that we see.
1) What is a fossil?
2) What can fossils tell us about Earth’s past?
1)Fossils are remains or traces of plants and animals that existed long ago.
2)They provide evidence to show how Earth and organisms have changed over time.
When engineers are deciding which materials to use in their prototypes, they must consider the material’s properties.

Draw and Describe what happens during a solar eclipse.
During a solar eclipse, the Moon moves between Sun and Earth, and blocks the Sun’s light from hitting Earth.
What are homologous structures?
Homologous structures are body parts of different organisms that look similar but often have a different job.
Draw and Describe what happens during a lunar eclipse
During a lunar eclipse, the Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon and blocks most of the sun’s rays from hitting the moon.
