How do new species usually evolve? In your answer, identify what process begins with what mechanisms lead to the new species and what the result is.

What is the process begins when a subset of an ancestral species population becomes geographically separated from the rest, usually by migrating to a new area or some form of geographic barrier forming.

Next, genetic mechanisms like natural selection, drift, and mutations cause changes within the isolated population over many generations as they adapt to the conditions in their locations. This leads to differentiation from the ancestral population.

Eventually, enough genetic, phenotypic, and behavioral changes accumulate that even if the populations come back into contact, they can no longer successfully interbreed. Reproductive isolation has occurred - critical criteria for being defined as a separate species.

The result is speciation: the evolution of a reproductively isolated and self-sustaining new species descended from but distinct from its ancestral parent species. Allopatric or peripatric isolation initiated the differentiation, while reproductive isolation and genetic changes completed the formation of the new daughter species.

Confirmation bias

What is it describes our natural inclination to notice or agree with what fits our current worldview while dismissing facts that go against what we think. It's how we subconsciously filter information in a biased way. We have to consciously account for this tendency to evaluate information accurately and make balanced, well-informed decisions.
