Brought Wundt's psychology from Germany, dramatically altering it in the process. Focused on mental elements or contents AND mechanical linking through the process of association, but discarded Wundt’s doctrine of apperception. In his view, the FUNDAMENTAL TASK was to discover the nature of elementary conscious experiences – to analyze consciousness into its component parts and thus determine its structure. Thus, he is associated with the school of thought called "structuralism." By some accounts, he appeared to discriminate against women -- but other behaviors would suggest otherwise.
