Name 3 mixtures.

Salad, pasta, and trail mix.

Is milk a solution.

No.

100

What is the thing you put into a liquid?

Solute.

100

What state of matter is water?

A liquid.

100

How would you get ice to water and then to a gas?

First I would melt the ice so it turns to a liquid, then I would evaporate the water so it turns to water vapor which is a gas.

200

Is soup a mixture?

Yes.

200

Why isn’t milk a solution?

It’s not a solution because there’s no solvent and solute being mixed together.
200

What is the liquid that you put the solute into?

Solvent.

200

What state of matter is water vapor.

A gas.

200

How would you seperase this mixture: beads, koolaid powder, sand, and pebbles.

First you would use a screen to get rid of the beads and pebbles. Next, I would add water to the remaining objects. Then I would use a coffee filter to seperate the sand. Lastly, I would evaporate the koolaid.

300

What materials could you use to seperate a mixture?

Hands, tweezers, magnet, screen.

300

Name 3 solutions.

Koolaid, lemonade, and hot chocolate.

300

What is the word that means what happens after water gets turned into a gas?

Water vapor.

300

What state of matter is ice?

A solid.

300

Why does heat interacting with the particles in ice turn it into a liquid?

The particles in the ice start off very close together and shake very slightly. Since the heat gives the particles energy it allows them to slowly seperate from each other  and move into different directions leaving it to be a liquid.

400

When would you use a magnet while separating a mixture?

I would use a magnet at the beginning to see if anything attracts to it.

400

What state of matter is a solution?

Solutions are liquid.
400

What are 3 words that describe something you cant see?

Transparent, clear, and invisible.

400

How would you change the state of matter that water is?

You would evaporate the water so it turns to water vapor which is a gas.

400

How could a popsicle be both a solid and a liquid?

A popsicle could be both of these states of matter because the popsicle starts off as a liquid but then gets frozen so it turns to a solid.

500

How would you separate this mixture: sand, salt, paper clips, and gravel.

1. I would use a magnet to get the paper clips into a cup 2. Then i would add water to the mixture and use a screen to put the gravel in a different cup 3. Next I would use a coffee filter to speperate the sand fro the mixture 4. Then i would evaporate the salt water into salt crystals and water vapor.

500

What’s the difference between mixtures and solutions?

Mixtures are objects that are mixed together. Solutions are made up of a solvent and solute.

500

Name 3 things physical property’s you would use to describe a mixture.

Texture, color, and substance.

500

What states of matter are included in salt water?

The salt is a solid and the water is a liquid.

500

If you have  water on a scale and water with salt in it, do you think the salt will affect the weight of the water?

Yes the salt will add weight to the water. Even though you may not be able to see it, it’s still there.
