What is the problem with "cramming" before an exam or when an essay is due?
It doesn't give the brain ample time to process information or make critical connections necessary for the brain to retrieve the information later on. When you cram, you simply forget what you have learned much faster than when you study diligently and steadily or an extended period of time.
