Outlining will use Roman Numerals, letters and numbers to help organize different ideas, topics or sequences. The Roman Numerals will contain the main ideas and the letters and numbers will list supporting details.

In the "Survey" step, you will scan the chapter or section headings, skim through the reading to notice the main ideas. This step is helpful because it helps you set expectations for the reading and get your feet wet prior to just jumping right into the reading!

It is a useful tool because it will stand out in your binder if you use colorful paper, it is interactive, the information is organized in a way that makes sense to you, you can personalize it, you can quiz yourself from it!

In the "Question" step, you will list questions prior to reading. Turn the section headings into questions or write down some of the chapter review or section review questions. It is helpful because you will stay more focused when reading because you know what information to watch for and you will start to hunt for answers to your questions.

Posture will affect your concentration on an assignment. Best posture for studying or writing is sitting upright with your back straight in a seat that supports you well. Lying down or slouching can make you less alert and your concentration will suffer.

What is the difference between "listening" and "hearing"? Provide an example of something you listen to and something you hear.
Hearing is a natural ability to notice noises (you can hear the hum of the air conditioning unit or you can faintly hear music off in the distance or hear fireworks) Listening is directing your attention to, or focusing on, what you're hearing and trying to make sense of it (you listen to a friend talking in conversation, you listen to the meaning of lyrics in a song, you listen to a teacher's lecture)
