Hadith on Turmoil: Muslims afflicted by worldliness, hatred, injustice:

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “My nation will be afflicted by the diseases of the  ----------------- nations.” They said, “O Messenger of --------------, what are the diseases of the former nations?” The Prophet said, 

“------------------ amusement,

disunity, 

competition for worldly gain, 

hatred, and 

greed until there is transgression followed by upheaval.”

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “My nation will be afflicted by the diseases of the former nations.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, what are the diseases of the former nations?” The Prophet said, “Excessive amusement, ingratitude, disunity, competition for worldly gain, hatred, and greed until there is transgression followed by upheaval.”

Al-Nu’man ibn Bashir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said upon the pulpit, “Whoever is not grateful for small things will not be grateful for large things. Whoever is not thankful to people is not thankful to Allah. Mentioning the blessings of Allah is gratitude and ignoring them is ingratitude. Unity is a mercy and division is a punishment.”

What lesson we learn from this surah?

1. The main theme is to make people realize how bad a person can become when they deny the afterlife: Ungrateful,  their actions will witness against them.

2. The Threat about the Hereafter 

Then Allah encourages abstinence from worldly things and striving for the Hereafter. 

3. He warns us and want us to fear Him by informing us of what the situation will be after this present condition, and what man will face of horrors.

This is the meaning of which Ayah?

Verily man, the disbeliever, is ungrateful to his Lord, thankless, denying [the reality of] His graces, exalted be He,

اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ لِرَبِّہٖ لَکَنُوۡدٌ ۚ

This is the Tafsir of which Ayah?

by the strikers, the steeds that strike fire [by way], of sparks, with their hoofs, when they gallop across rocky terrain by night;

فَالۡمُوۡرِیٰتِ قَدۡحًا ۙ

إِنَّ الإِنسَـنَ لِرَبِّهِ لَكَنُودٌ

(Verily, man is ungrateful (Kanud) to his Lord.) This is the subject what is being sworn about, and it means that he (man) is ---------------------- for the favors of His Lord and he --------------- them.

"Al-Kanud is the one who counts the calamities (that befall him) and he forgets Allah's --------------."

إِنَّ الإِنسَـنَ لِرَبِّهِ لَكَنُودٌ

(Verily, man is ungrateful (Kanud) to his Lord.) This is the subject what is being sworn about, and it means that he (man) is ungrateful for the favors of His Lord and he rejects them. 


Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid, Ibrahim An-Nakha`i, Abu Al-Jawza', Abu Al-`Aliyah, Abu Ad-Duha, Sa`id bin Jubayr, Muhammad bin Qays, Ad-Dahhak, Al-Hasan, Qatadah, Ar-Rabi` bin Anas and Ibn Zayd all said, "Al-Kanud means ungrateful." Al-Hasan said, 

"Al-Kanud is the one who counts the calamities (that befall him) and he forgets Allah's favors."

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, the first thing a servant will be asked about on the Day of Resurrection will be his ---------------. It will be said to him: Have We not given you health in your body and nourished you with cool --------------- to drink?”


Hadith on Gratitude: People asked about their blessings first

What is the practical lesson we learned to apply everyday?

1. Obey Our desire and do what we like to do and not worry about Akhirah.

2. Fear of people - Log kya kahaigay.

3. Obey Allah Tala and worry what Allah Tala will say if we disobey Him.

It is not for the idolators, to maintain the Masajid (Mosques) of Allah, while they witness disbelief against themselves. (9:17)

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: 

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "I was shown the Hell-fire and that the majority of its dwellers were ------------------- who were ----------------------." It was asked, "Do they disbelieve in Allah?" (or are they ungrateful to Allah?) He replied, "They are ------------------------ to their husbands and are ungrateful for the favors and the good (charitable deeds) done to them. If you have always been good (benevolent) to one of them and then she sees something in you (not of her liking), she will say, 'I have never received any --------------- from you."

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

This is the meaning/Tafsir of which Ayah?

There are two opinions concerning this. 

One of them is that it means that he is severe in his love of wealth.

The other view is that it means he is covetous and stingy due to the love of wealth. 

However, both views are correct.

وَاِنَّہٗ لِحُبِّ الۡخَیۡرِ لَشَدِیۡدٌ ؕ

Meaning, He knows all of that they used to do, and He will compensate them for it with the most deserving reward. He does not do even the slightest amount of injustice. This is the end of the Tafsir of Surat Al-`Adiyat, and all praise and thanks are due to Allah.

Umar ibn al-Khattab reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Destruction is in the desire for gold and silver.” Umar said, “O Messenger of Allah, what kind of wealth should we seek?” The Prophet said, “A ---------------- of remembrance, a grateful -----------------, and a believing ----------------.”

How can we protect ourselves from being "Kanud" Ungrateful?

1. We desire to become a Greatfull person and ask Allah Subhanahuwatala to make us one of them.

2. We should be optimistic and look for mercy of Allah Tala in everything that happens.
