Surah Al-Qāriʿah

part 1

100

ٱلْقَارِعَةُ

The Striking Day! This is a special name for the Day of Judgment

200

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ

And what will make you know what the Striking Day is?
(The Day of Judgment is a huge deal that it is hard for us to fully imagine how it will be.)

يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ

On that Day, people will be..

كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ

will be like scattered moths.

(Imagine tiny moths flying around in all directions without knowing where to go. On the Day of Judgment, people will feel confused and scared in a similar way.)

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ

And the mountains will be like fluffy wool.

part 2

ٱلْجِبَالُ

نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌ

It is a blazing Fire.

300

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُ

Then, as for the one whose good deeds are heavy on the scale on (the day of judgement)

400

فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ

People whose good deeds are heavy will go to Jannah (Paradise), where they will be happy forever, surrounded by peace and beautiful blessings.

500

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُ

If someone did many bad deeds and did not try to do good or ask Allah for forgiveness, their scale of good deeds will be light.

part 3

100

فَأُمُّهُ هَاوِيَةٌ

This means that their final place and home will be in Hellfire

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهْ

And what will make you know what it is?
