What are redness, swelling, pain, bleeding, abnormal discharge, or odour from operative site? Fever and chills may occur.

May present with increasing thirst, fatigue, general malaise, urinary frequency, or slow healing wounds.
What is DIABETES?
A common Beta 2 agonist - Works as a bronchodilator
What is Ventolin/Salbutamol?
May be treated with IV fluids, blood products or further surgery. A rapid event.
What is post operative HEMORRHAGE?
Instruct the patient to seek medical attention if this type of pain occurs. May be an indication of possible PE or other complications.

What is CHF? (Congestive heart failure)
A medication commonly used as an adjunct therapy with opioid analgesics to decrease patient discomfort. Daily max dose of 4G.
What is Tylenol/Acetaminophen?
A prolonged absence of bowel function after surgical procedures. May cause abdominal distention, pain, inability to pass flatus, decrease PO intake tolerance
What is a post operative ILEUS?
What you would teach a patient being discharged with a prescription for Tinzaparin
-You may bleed and bruise more easily while you are using tinzaparin. Stay away from rough sports or other situations where you could be bruised, cut, or injured. Be careful when using sharp objects, including razors and fingernail clippers. Avoid nose picking, forceful nose blowing, and use caution when flossing/brushing teeth
-Show the patient the body areas where this shot can be given. Use a different body area each time you give yourself a shot.
-Inject into the fatty tissue of the skin (subcutaneously) at a 90° right angle. Hold a fold of skin gently between the thumb and index finger.
-Discard used needle in an enclosed sharps container (provided by unit or pharmacy)

A temporary disruption in the blood supply to part of the brain. Symptoms rapidly resolving.
What is a TIA? (Transient Ischemic Attack)
This medication is used for the prevention of post-op venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing surgery.
What is Tinzaparin (other examples - Fragmin, Heparin)?
A partial or total separation of previously approximated wound edges, due to a failure of proper wound healing
What is DEHISCENCE?
Upon return from surgery, ensure we are recording the first volume of this from a post-operative patient.
What is urine/void. May require catheterization if unable to void post-operatively.
An artificial opening constructed by bringing the end or loop of small intestine out onto the surface of the skin.
