Pull -Once the proper extinguisher has been selected, pull the safety pin on the handle to break the plastic tie.

Aim -Place the extinguisher as close to the base of the flame as you feel safe and aim the nozzle at the base of the fire.

Squeeze- Press the handle together to discharge the extinguisher ensuring the material is expelled into the direction of the fire.

Patients, family members, friends, etc. can report their concerns and/or complaints to the Department of Patient Relations, ext. 2058. Complaints can be made in person, in writing or by telephone.

What is the R.A.C.E. procedure

Rescue. Patients in immediate danger must be tended to first. If you are busy in the rescue effort, call out “NOTIFY DOCTOR WATER” so other employees can pull the alarm.

Alarm. Sound the alarm by activating the nearest fire alarm pull station and then dial extension 2222. Tell the hospital operator your name and exact location of the fire.

Contain. Close the windows and doors. This will help to confine the fire/smoke to one area until the fire department arrives.

Extinguish/Evacuate. Extinguish the fire if possible with an appropriate extinguisher. If the fire appears too large close off the area and evacuate. Direct the fire response team and fire department.
