What is an ecosystems?

Ecosystems are systems with abiotic and biotic components that interact.

100

A part of the planet, including water, land, and air.

Biosphere

100

Explain how photosynthesis works?

carbon dioxide gas + water + sunlight --->glucose + oxygen gas

100

What is competition?

Competition is the interaction between two or more organisms competing for the same resource in a given habitat

200

What is ecology?

The study of how organisms interact

200

What are two types of biomes?

1. Territorial

2. Aquatic

200

What are the different nutrient cycles?

1. Water Cycle

2. Nitrogen Cycle

3. Carbon Cycle

200

What is predation?

Predation occurs when one organism eats another organism to obtain food

300

What is a biome?

A biome is a geographical region that contains similar ecosystems

300

What are the 5 types of territorial biomes?

1. Deciduous forests

2. Boreal forests

3. Tundra

4.Grasslands

5. Temperate coniferous forests

300

Explain the cellular respiration process.

glucose + oxygen gas ---> carbon dioxide gas + water + energy

300

What is symbiosis?

Symbiosis is a close interaction between two different species in which members of one species live in, on, or near members of another species

400

What is photosynthesis?

Photosynthesis is the process plants use to capture sunlight

400

What are the three layers of biosphere?

1. Atmosphere

2. Lithosphere

3. Hydrosphere

400

Give an example of a nutrient cycle.

Carbon dioxide is exhaled by a wildebeest. The carbon contained in the carbon dioxide is now in the atmosphere, an abiotic part of the ecosystem. The carbon dioxide is then absorbed by a grass plant, and the carbon particle it contains becomes part of a carbohydrate in the grass’s cells. The carbon is now once again in the biotic part of the ecosystem.

400

What are the three main types of symbiosis?

1. Mutualism, both species benefit from the symbiotic partnership

2. Commensalism occurs when one species benefits from a relationship with another species without any harm or benefit to the other species

3. Parasitism occurs when one species benefits at the expense of another species

500

What is cellular respiration?

Cellular respiration is the process plants use to obtain the energy from glucose

500

How do marine biomes differ from freshwater biomes?

Marine: higher salt concentrations

Freshwater: lower salt concentrations

500

What is the difference between a food chain and food web?

A food chain outlines who eats whom. A food web is all of the food chains in an ecosystem

500

What is a factor that affects population?

Various answers
