ASQs are done upon enrollment, and then during every transition to a new classroom. DECAS are September and February

Are you allowed to use lysol in front of children?

Nope. if you spray it, please make sure they are not around. And wait 10 seconds to wipe it away.

What Curriculum do we use and do you have daily access to it? 

We use Creative Curriculum and it can be found in the Director's office in the cherry dresser, bottom drawer.

Can you explain your programs screening and referral process? 

Once a screening is completed we notice if the child has an area of need. We create a plan, including activities to support needs, and we determine a time to rescreen. This is shared with parents, in person.

What's the difference between Product and Processed art? 

Product-Focused Art is when a child begins a project knowing what the end product should look like and they follow a set of instructions to get to their goal Process-Focused Art is when a child is given an open-ended project and they have the opportunity to express themselves through their work.

Do you label your soap and water and lysol?

Every day with a new date from when I make it :)

How do you disinfect a surface?

Soap and water first! 

Then Lysol. Spray and leave on for more than 10 seconds and wipe off. 

We do not spray the lysol in front of children.

What do you use for screening and assessments (formal and informal?) 

We use the DECA and ASQ-3 for screening. Our formal assessments are done through Teaching Strategies Gold. Informal assessments are our observations, EDUCA, pictures and work samples

How are screening results formally communicated with families?

If a plan needs to be made, we schedule an in person conference. If the child scores "typical" in each category, these results are shared at our Bi-Annual Teacher Conferences.

How often do you change diapers?

Every 2 hours or when soiled.

Do you know how many children are in your care? 

Yes- we sign them in AND OUT on the clipboard, and keep count with our tadpoles.

What's the difference between a screening and assessment?

A screening is an overall snapshot of child's development. An assessment focuses on a child's benchmarks and objectives.

How do you get parent input for transition strategies, and for educational goal setting? 

Upon enrollment there is a form about the child's likes and dislikes and goals. The parents then can make appointments to discuss the best strategies. We also discuss at Parent Teacher Conferences their goals and expectations.

How do you talk to children?

eye to eye, bend down to see them. Talk calm and with open ended questions

Where is your schedule? 

By the door of the classroom with times for lunch and resting.

Can you text while in ratio? 

Facebook, phone calls and texting are considered neglect! This is a licensing offense :o

When is the first initial screening done of a child?

The ASQ goes home upon enrollment. DECAS are completed by September (except this year... COVID pushed them to October)

What do you do with Parent's input about educational goal setting?

We implement them in our PICS (individualized plans), small group and lesson planning

Do we sit outside while the children are playing? 

Nope. Unfortunately some licensing reps view that as "being out of ratio". We should be counting, playing and interacting (and supervising all children).

How often and how do you wash hands?

20 seconds with soap and wipe our hands before we turn off the sink. Upon entering, before and after eating, after outside time and upon leaving

If my name is not on the paperwork, can I give medicine? 

No. Please have Kathy or Clare. If you would like to, we can have the parents "train" you on the prescription and we can add you to the paperwork!
