What's CUNY application?
The act of pursuing educational opportunities in a country other than one's own. This can take place during academic year breaks, per semester, and/or for the year.
What is Study Abroad
This is seen on the FAFSA confirmation page and refers to how much you and your family can be asked to contribute to your Cost of Attendance for the year.
What is the Expected Family Contribution - EFC
This is a building/residence or place where students can live when they go to college.
What are college "dorms?"
This is the time students get to talk to school admissions, ask questions about your learning interest, school financial aid package and the opportunity program the school offers. After the tours, students get the chance to be part of the informative session with a representative.
What's college trip
This school offers associate degree.
What's 2yr college/Community college?
This program provides part time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money.
What's work-study
A stipend that is received after all financial aid has been applied to college costs.
What is a refund check.
Make sure to figure out where this refund is coming from, along with how and this gets disbursed at your school. In addition, have a plan in place for what you will be using this funding for.
This department organizes career fair, job readiness, interviews preparation, networking events, and resume workshop.
What are career services?
This is the day students make their final decisions about what schools they will be attending in the fall.
What's May 1st/College commitment day?
This Financial aid application is for New York State residents and who are attending post secondary educational institution in New York.
What's TAP (Tuition Assistance Program)?
These are other activities you can do other than your classes, such as playing a sport, being part of club, and etc.
What are "extracurricular activities?"
This is a six months period following college graduation when students are exempt from loan repayment.
what is a grace period?
This program is designed to provide academic and financial support to students from low-income and educationally disadvantaged background.
What's opportunity program (CD/SEEK/EOP/HEOP).
This application deadline is November 1st and you are expected to hear from them by December or early January.
What's early decision?
This essay is an opportunity to tell a little bit more about yourself and why you are a good candidate.
What's personal statement?
A warning that the student's performance falls below the institution's requirement for good academic standing, usually a 2.0. This term means that a student's grades and/or GPA are not high enough to continue in school if their grades or GPA doesn't improve.
What is academic probation
Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is a form required from all students seeking need-based financial aid. This form collects family income and other financial aid information and is completed and filed by the student or his/her family.
What is FAFSA?
This summer program offers academic, financial, career support. It also provides one on one, or small group tutoring, offers remedial, developmental and supportive courses sometimes for 2 to 4 weeks.
What's pre-freshman summer program.
This test can be taken anytime from your Freshman year in High School until your senior year, but it's recommended to take it for the first time in spring semester of your Junior year.
What is SAT test?
It's used for private colleges and consist of one application that can be sent to several schools. Each college also has their own cost for application and the fee can be cover by a fee waver.
What is Common Application (Common App)?
