Why were Egyptian pharaohs considered to be more powerful than modern American presidents, like President Obama?
People believed the pharaohs were more than human; both part-human, and part-god. Pharaohs also had supreme power - meaning power over all parts of Egyptian life since they had a monarchy. Americans don't consider their presidents to be anything more than humans. Presidents also have more limited power and cannot influence all parts of life.

Athens relied on fishing and trade to get the resources they needed to survive. Sparta relied on some farming, but also took what they needed from others.

Athens - Relied on trade, focused on intelligence and the arts, had a powerful navy, allowed "citizens" to vote, close to the sea. Sparta - Known for their military strength, had an oligarchy style of government, allowed women more freedoms and rights, farmed and took resources from others to survive, suspicious of outside ideas and people.

The mountainous geography of Greece, isolated many city-states from one another. They couldn't trade often, communicate with one another, or share resources because the land didn't make it easily possible. Since city-states were separated by mountains and the sea, they developed in unique and different ways.

How was power passed from one Egyptian leader to the next?
In Ancient Egypt, power was passed through the pharaoh's royal family. The heir to the throne, the next person who was supposed to rule, would take over for the pharaoh when he died. Typically this was the pharaoh's son. This is why many pharaoh's had multiple wives, so they could be sure to have an heir to replace them and keep the power in the family.

Ancient civilizations were polytheistic because through their belief in the gods they were able to make sense of the world and understand the mysteries of life and nature, such as thunder and lightening, the changing of the seasons, childbirth, disease, drought, flooding, etc.

A citizen in Athens didn't mean everyone. Only free men, born of Athenian parents, who owned land, and were an adult were allowed to vote. Women, child, foreigners, and slaves were left out, as well as men who didn't meet the qualifications (owning land).
