WHO IS WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE?
A handkerchief is an example of which type of prop?
What is a hand/costume/decorative prop?
Tell me ONE fun fact about William Shakespeare that you learned about from class (or our research bingo).
What's the difference between a set piece and a prop?
A prop is anything used or held by the actor OR meant to decorate/enhance the play; a set piece is anything large enough to not move (i.e. stairs, wall, etc.)
DECIPHER this Shakespearean quote & tell me what this means in modern-day:
"ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE, AND THE MEN AND WOMEN MERELY PLAYERS."
“Life is like being on stage, and we are all playing roles throughout it.”
You notice someone walking around with an X-acto knife pointing toward people, and even see them attempting to leave Ms. Pearce's class with it. What do you do?
IDEAS: Tell Ms. P, let them know it is a write-up/bad thing, etc.
Describe what the language in Elizabethan England (Shakespeare's time) was like.
IDEAS: Old English, most plays written in verses (iambic pentameter- 10 syllables per 1 line); lots of metaphors, double meanings, puns; really outlandish, descriptive language.
Define the term "permanent set." Give me an example!
PERMANENT SET= Stays on the stage the whole time OR barely changes throughout the show. EXAMPLE: Platforms, stairs, etc.
There are FOUR big reasons we study Shakespeare today that we discussed in class. Tell me ONE of those reasons!
1. His ability to show the Human Experience, 2. Great stories, 3. Compelling characters, 4. Ability to create language
Define AND describe the differences between the 4 types of props. (i.e. decorative props OR set dressing, set props, costume props, hand props)
DECORATIVE PROPS- Decorates the set and adds character/liveliness to the stage
SET PROPS- Bigger items that are harder to move
COSTUME PROPS- Can be worn or put on/off an actor's costume
HAND PROPS- Held or used or carried on/off by an actor.
