Should we try to suppress our emotions? Put them in a box, ignore them. Aren't they just over-reactions to a situation? Tell me why/why not.

We should not try to suppress or hide them away. They will probably come up stronger and harder to deal with. Best to be aware of how I'm feeling, acknowledge this and allow space. They will come in and out of my world like 'clouds in the sky'.

Listening with a positive, engaged response. Acknowledging that you're listening by direct eye movement, paraphrasing, nodding the head, not judging or trying to fix the problem.

Put yourself in the other person's shoes. Trying to understand how the other person is feeling. If you were feeling upset, what would make you feel better.
