What is the Philosophy?
A distinct group within a group.
What is Sub-grouping?
This has many common areas for holding group activities and promoting a sense of community, such as dining room, day room, tv room and group rooms.
What is Community environment?
Encourages us to focus on one thing at a time, changing and attitude, managing a feeling, or being on time, trying to do to much is a set-up to fail at everything.
What is “Keep it simple”?
This person feels it is their duty to solve everyone else’s problems in order to not have to focus on their own.
Who is the Fixer?
Willingness to follow suggestions, open-mindedness to take a look at all views, respect both given and received, truthfulness, honest, talk about anything and humility or to put away false pride.
What is WORTH?
Large organizational chart that provides a snapshot of the overall hierarchy in the community.
What is Structure board?
All therapeutic, educational and correctional interactions involve raising residents’ awareness in respectful manner.
What is Awareness training?
Stresses the importance of investing in change through total commitment to the process of change.
What is “You get back what you give”?
They are the soul of the Community and feed it spiritual needs, they don’t say much but when they do, they challenge us.
Who is Deep waters?
The primary goal of the community is to provide members with a sense of belonging, acceptance, and new skills for living without self-destructive behavior patterns.
What is the Purpose of a Therapeutic Community?
Progressive steps of interaction used to assist community members is awareness and changing self-defeating, self-destructive behaviors.
What is Interaction tools?
Treatment and educational services take place in the context of the peer community, that occur in groups or meetings where residents can interact and learn from one another.
What is Community activities?
Encourages community members in supporting recovery in others, giving time and energy to others when possible, helping and teaching others is continually helping oneself through practicing, rehearsing, reinforcing recovery teaching and positive behavior.
What is “You can’t keep it unless you give it away”?
This person perceives their role in the group as not having enough power and seem to need control to feel comfortable, so they begin to use the system as a tool of aggression against members of the Community.
Who is the Growler?
To help individuals come together in adversity, to share their knowledge and hope, in order to help rebuild their lives through this community with common unity.
What is the Mission statement?
Response to behaviors that seriously endanger the community, e.g., cardinal rules violations.
What is General Meeting?
Consistent with the TC’s “Community as Method” approach, all residents are responsible for the daily operation of the program with includes cleaning, schedule coordination, meetings and activities.
What is Work and therapy as education?
A false or “cool” impression will not help make good relationships, for it does not indicate real feelings or attitude and is not honest.
What is “When you are looking good you are looking bad”?
They are the person who is out in front, they take the risk of exposure by publicly buying into the model and are a leader, motivator and is often seen as staff “Pet”.
Who is the Standard bearer?
This person is the final point in the completion of TC assignments and phase requirements.
Who is Primary counselor?
Members respectfully make each other aware of negative behaviors, in an effort to bring about positive change ins behaviors and attitudes.
What is Peer accountability?
A part or element of the Therapeutic Community program.
What is a component?
Remembering the problems, pains, and identify the past helps one to stay committed to the struggle in the present and goals of the future.
What is “Remember where you come from to know where you are going”?
This person does not want to rock anyone’s boat; they entertain negative comments from one group member about anther and they eventually lose credibility and will not be able to function as an effective role model or member.
