The presence of differences in a group—race, culture, hometown (rural or urban), gender identity, religion, language, abilities, etc.
What is diversity?
The set of qualities, beliefs, personality traits, appearance, or expressions that characterize a person or a group.
What is identity?
Subtle, often unintentional, but still harmful behaviors or comments that communicate bias towards members of marginalized groups. They can be verbal or nonverbal, and while they might seem minor, their cumulative effect can be significant, causing feelings of invalidation, stress, and disengagement.
What are microaggressions?
This is the practice of ensuring people feel welcome and valued for who they are.
What is inclusion?
As an autistic person and renowned animal behavior expert, she has transformed how society views neurodiversity and ability. She’s also an outspoken advocate for inclusion in education and the workplace.
Who is Temple Grandin?
Giving each individual or group of people the same resources or opportunities.
What is equality?
Feeling accepted and valued as your full self within the group.
What is belonging?
Automatic associations and reactions toward individuals or groups that are not consciously recognized. These ideas are shaped by upbringing, personal experiences, societal stereotypes, and cultural context. They can be positive or negative.
What is unconscious or implicit bias?
The practice of using one's privilege and power to advocate for and stand in solidarity with marginalized groups.
What is allyship?
This Swedish climate and political activist is initially known for challenging world leaders to take immediate action to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Who is Greta Thunberg?
This concept means giving people what they need to succeed, which may be different from others.
What is equity?
Unearned advantages some people have because of aspects of their identity (e.g., race, location, gender).
What is privilege?
A form of exclusion where people are present but their voices aren't heard or considered.
What is tokenism?
Noticing when someone is being interrupted, ignored, stereotyped, or excluded, and gently calling it out or supporting the person being affected.
What is an upstander?
Co-founder of the United Farm Workers, she fought for labor rights, immigrant rights, and gender equity. She remains active in DEIB advocacy today.
Who is Dolores Huerta?
The process of relegating individuals or groups to the edges of society, often limiting their access to resources, opportunities, and social recognition.
What is marginalization?
When a person changes the way they speak, behave or present themselves in specific situations or circumstances - i.e. changing how you talk, adjusting appearance, holding back information, using a different name, adopting different mannerisms, etc.
What is code switching?
An exaggerated belief, image or distorted truth about a person or group. It is a generalisation that does not account for individual differences.
What is a stereotype?
Someone who actively opposes racism by challenging racist policies, behaviors.
What is an antiracist?
As the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history, Gorman uses art and voice to uplift stories of identity, inclusion, and justice—particularly for young people and marginalized communities.

This type of diversity includes unseen traits such as sexual orientation, religious beliefs, disability, socioeconomic status, and neurodiversity.
What is unseen or invisible diversity?

A criminal act against a person or property that is motivated, at least in part, by the offender's bias against the victim's race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity.

Someone who supports the principle that women should have the same social, economic, and political rights as men.
What is a feminist?
A Black transgender woman and key figure in the Stonewall Uprising (1969), she fought for LGBTQ+ rights, especially for trans people of color and the unhoused.
