ESL Program Models
100
Students communicate nonverbally in response to simple commands statements, or questions.

Students spend part of the school day in a mainstream classroom, and are removed a portion of the day to receive ESL instruction.

Students memorize simple phrases, and sentences.
What is Level 2

Students receive ESL instruction during a regular class period and usually receive course credit.

Students rely on high frequency words and known patterns.

Initial instruction is provided in students 1st language, but is rapidly passed out. Most students are in mainstream classrooms by the end of 1st or 2nd grade.
What is Early Exit Bilingual program

Students engage in conversation and class discussion

Classes are composed of minority language speakers, and majority language speakers (50/50). Instruction is provided in both languages.
What is Two-Way Bilingual Programs

Studens produce language comparable to a native speaker with few grammatical errors.
