What is epidemiology?
The study of health problems in populations
An event of cases for a specific illness in large amounts within a community or region.
What is a case?
An individual within a population who has been recognized as having a specific disease, disorder, injury, or condition.
What are the concepts of the epidemiology triangle?
The host, the infectious agent, the environment, and the time.
What is a fomite?
an object (door handle) that can hold the the infectious agent and is capable of transferring.
What is descriptive epidemiology?
Characterization of the spread of health related states or events.
What is pandemic?
an epidemic attacking the population of a large area.
What is a primary case?
What is the agent's role?
What is a vector?
An invertebrate animal (mosquito) that transfers the infection from one host to another.
What is analytic epidemiology?
finding correlations, testing hypotheses, and identify causes.
What is endemic?
Ongoing existence of disease within a certain group of people.
What is a secondary case?
The individuals who become infected once the disease has been introduced into the population by the primary case.
What is the host's role?
What is a reservoir?
The habitat in which the infection agent lives and grows.
What is efficacy?
the capacity of program to construct a desired effect between those who were engaged and those who were not.
What are the two primary types of epidemics?
common source epidemics and propagated epidemics.
What is a suspect case?
A person or group of persons who show all the symptoms of a disease but have not yet been diagnosed.
What is the environment's role?
What is a vehicle?
A nonliving thing that transports the infectious agent from its reservoir to a susceptible host.
What is effectiveness?
The capacity of a program to construct profits between those who are offered the program.
What is an example of a vehicle-borne transmission?
Needle sharing.
What is case severity?
Discovered by observing multiple variables that are effective measures.
What is the role of time?
What is a carrier and give two types?
Holds and spreads an infectious organism. An active carrier and intermittent carrier.
