When the physical production elements are installed in the theatre, usually after being moved there from an offsite location.
What is Load-In?
These are the first rehearsals that happen in the theatre when the director works with the performers to adapt blocking from the rehearsal room to the actual scenery.
What is a Spacing Rehearsals?
When members of the company gather after a performance to have a conversation with audience members and answer questions about the production.
What is a Talk-Back / Post-Show Discussion?
Designs are evaluated for feasibility withing the productions available resources during this.
What is the budgeting phase?
The phase of rehearsal when the actors and director will focus on understanding the themes of the scrips and the words of the characters.
What is Table Work?
The work call during which lighting, sound, and projection designers work with their production crews to make sure their devices are aimed correctly.
What is Focus?
The production meeting that happens following each technical rehearsal to discuss notes from the rehearsal that affect multiple disciplines.
What is Tech Notes?
A performance held in the daytime, especially in the afternoon.
What is a Matinee?
This is when "final" designs are presented to technical managers, performers, and others that are working on the production.
What is the Design Presentation?
The people responsible for developing all the physical and auditory aspects of the production.
Who are the designers?
Calls where performers try on garments for the costume designer and select production staff to determine if adjustments are needed.
What are Costume Fittings?
Review by director/designer/wardrobe staff of all costumes worn by cast and paraded under stage lighting. Any defects, misfits etc. are noted or corrected before the first Dress Rehearsal.
What is Costume Parade?
A rehearsal held after the production has opened clarify or refresh the specifics of particular blocking, choreography, combat, or music.
What is a Brush Up Rehearsal?
The week prior to the first rehearsal when the stage manager does the necessary work to be ready for the first rehearsal.
What is the SM Prep Week?
A rehearsal in which an understudy is given the chance to work with the principal cast and most if not all of the production elements, prior to appearing on stage as a substitute for the primary actor cast in a roll.
What is a Put-in Rehearsal?
The time after the production has closed when the theatre is returned to its neutral state.
Strike
The first time the performers sit and run through the full score with the orchestra. Time is taken to incorporate the two elements until the Music Director is satisfied.
What is a Sitzprobe?
The performance of a play or musical for an audience that takes place during the final days of rehearsals prior to opening night.
