Mr. Jones decided to take his family camping. It was a beautiful weekend and the family was excited about the trip. So he packed up the car and away they went. At first they had trouble finding an empty campsite. Most of the other campers had made reservations ahead of time. When they finally found one, Dad asked the kids, Tim and Katie, to pitch the tent. It wasn't long before Tim reported that he could not find the tent stakes. Sure enough, they were nowhere to be found.
Meanwhile, mom was trying to light the portable stove, but Dad had forgotten the matches. Not only that, they did not have a can opener to open the can of spaghetti sauce they had brought for dinner or a pot big enough to cook the noodles. Then Katie discovered that they had forgotten to bring the sleeping bags!
It soon became clear that camping was not going to happen. Grumpily, Dad packed everything back into the car and they drove back to the city. They picked up a pizza on the way home and everyone slept in their own beds that night.

Ryan's life changed when he got sick. He didn't have a cold or the flu. Ryan had cancer. He got very sick and had to stay in the hospital for long time. When his class at school found out about his illness, the teacher had them all make cards for him. Ryan had been popular with his classmates and while he appreciated the cards, he was surprised that no one from his class came to visit him, no one except James. James was a nice kid, a little shy, so Ryan had never gotten to know him well, but he had always liked him.
On that first visit, James brought Ryan some of his favorite comic books to read. James continued to visit Ryan a few times a week. James kept him updated on what was happening at school and helped him to keep up with the work that their teacher sent. James kept coming to the hospital, even when the cancer made Ryan so weak that he could hardly move or talk. In fact, he came more often. The cancer treatments worked and Ryan got better. He returned to school and was greeted enthusiastically by his classmates. The tongue is covered with little bumps. Inside each bump are tiny organs called taste buds. There are about 3,000 taste buds on your tongue! There are also taste buds in three places inside your throat. Your taste buds work together in groups in different areas of your tongue and throat to help you recognize different tastes. They allow you to detect sweet, sour, salty, and bitter tastes. When food is placed inside your mouth, the chemicals in it cause your taste buds to carry messages through nerve cells to your brain. Your brain then tells you what kinds of tastes you are experiencing. Your tongue and the food you are eating must be moist for the taste buds to work, so your mouth releases saliva to mix with dry foods and moisten your tongue when you eat.

The pelican is an excellent fisherman, and it has its own fishnet! The pelican has a huge elastic pouch connected to its underside. It uses this pouch to catch food for itself and to feed its young. Pelicans live by the shore, and their diet is mostly made up of fish. When a pelican passes over a group of fish, it dips its lower beak into the water and moves forward. It catches the fish in its pouch like a net. When the pouch is full, the pelican closes its beak and the water drains out. The pelican’s pouch can stretch to carry twelve quarts of water or thirty pounds of fish! Female pelicans also use their pouches to feed their young. Claire's face fell. “Oh no. I forgot," she moaned. "But can't I go to the skating party? Grandpa will hardly even notice I'm not there."
“Absolutely not," replied Mom. “He most certainly will notice. You are his only grandchild and family comes first. Always."

Did you know that a rope made out of strands of long hair would be strong enough to lift a car? Hair is strong, and it is always growing. The hair on your head can grow about half an inch each month. Even after your body stops growing taller, your hair will still continue to grow. Hair normally grows faster during the summer than it does during the winter. It also grows faster during the day than it does at night. Each strand of hair can grow until it reaches a certain length. When it reaches that length, it stops growing. This is because it can no longer receive the nourishment it needs to grow. The strand falls out, and a new hair replaces it. This process can take two to six years for the hair on your head but just three to five months for shorter hair, like eyelashes and eyebrows.

As Daedalus and his son Icarus flew into the air, Daedalus reminded Icarus to stay away from the sun. However, Icarus was so excited to be flying that he didn't listen to his father. Instead he dove downward and then skyrocketed upward, loving the feeling of the wind rushing around him.
