Triangles are used more than any other shape in buildings because they are more stable, with only three hinges, not being able to bend over or collapse. For example, if you used squares, they could fold and bend into a parallelogram. The weight is more distributed across the shapes angles.

What is the Pythagorean theorem?

The Pythagorean theorem is a way to find out the longest angle in any RIGHT triangle. The longest angle is always the side that does not make up the 90° angle (Side b). To find this, you must know that a+ c2 = b2 (Two shorter sides squared and added up equal the third longer side squared). For example, if side (a) is 3' long and side (c) is 2' long, to find out side (b), you would do: a= 9  c2 = 4 

4 + 9 = 13. This means that 13 is b2 from here, you can find the square root of 13 with any strategy, and most likely round to the nearest 100th. So in this case, b would be about 3.61'.
