The speaker or writer’s position on an issue or problem
claim
the solving of the conflict in the story
resolution
The average of a set of data; sum of the data divided by the number of items. Also called average.
mean
to quote a passage, book or author in order to support a claim; to identify a source of information
cite
The process of finding equivalent fractions to obtain the simplest form.
simplifying
the writer’s attitude toward the subject, such as serious, playful, mocking, sympathetic
tone
The point of greatest interest in a story or play; the turning point
climax
a comparison of two or more numbers that indicates their size in relation to each other.
ratio
consistent
A ratio of two unlike quantities that has a denominator of 1 unit.
unit ratio
Specific piece of information that supports a claim; can take the form of a fact, a quotation, an example, a statistic, anecdote, or a personal experience, etc.
evidence
a message about life or human nature that the reader learns from the story
theme
The second number provided in an ordered pair (a, b).
y-coordinate
to tell the most important facts or ideas about something with a short and clear response
summarize
A way of expressing a number as parts out of 100; the numerator of a ratio with a denominator of 100.
