Describe the homestead provisions that were included in the Constitution of 1876.

The Constitution of 1876 carried on a Texas tradition by including a homestead provision. A homestead provision meant that any head of family without a homestead could claim 160 acres of public land. A man had to live on the land for three years to secure it. The homestead was protected from creditors who looked for payments of outstanding debt.
