Travis was commanding officer in the battle of the alamo. When James Bowie died, Travis took over command of the alamo and wrote the Famous letter "VICTORY OR DEATH" asking for reinforcements to surrounding armies. He led the defense of the Alamo until the Mexican army finally over took it and killed them all.
