This is a very unusual game. It's not an arcade game, shooter game, or action title. <Blank> is a military strategy game I guess. The graphics are nice, looking very similar to the overhead scenes in <blank>, but the play is very regimented and it will be hard for any one but war gamers to appreciate. (Genesis)
What is "Hertzog Zwei"?
The game he compares it to is "Thunder Force 2".Some arcade games just don't translate to the home systems well and <blank> is a good example. While it looks like <blank>, that's about it. The handling is difficult, and because of this it just doesn't play well. If you can't control your character, then game play be comes frustrating. (NES)
What is "720 Degrees"?
This game doesn't have much going for it. The characters are too cartoony, and the game play is boring. There's not enough in the way of power-ups or shops to enhance the action either. The premise is kind of cool, but it didn't come off well. (SMS)
What is "Dynamite Dux"?
I didn't like the movie and I don't like the game. What <blank> suffers from is a lack of content. None of the different segments are particularly bad, there just isn't enough substance to make them interesting or fun. None of the segments is strong enough to stand on its own. (NES)
What is "Ghostbusters 2"?
The previously announced Camerica Powerpack Quatermann talked about in issue 9 is not actually being made by Camerica or called the Powerpack, but is instead this famous NES cheat device from this manufacturer.
What is the Galoob Game Genie?
While <blank> might be interesting enough to capture the hearts of RPG enthusiasts, I seriously disliked the jumpy animations and the difficulty in control that it caused. Also, early in the game you spend time building your character - not exploring. There just isn't much to motivate play. (Genesis)
What is "Super Hylide"?
While graphically excellent and quite challenging, something is just missing in this game. It just doesn't come across like a four-meg game should. Perhaps there's not enough bang for the buck, even with the floating shops and gambling centers that help break up the action. (TG16)
What is "Ordyne"?
A shooting game that could have been great. With its orignal theme and great graphics, <blank> instead ends up becoming a frustrating lesson in poor control and lack of variety. Disappointing. (TG16)
What is "Deep Blue"?
This is <blank>. Although it is a great version, this game is just too old to be considered a real game. The execution is nearly identical however, so the game gets a point for its carbon copy translation, but it ends up being a boring old game -- which is exactly what it is. (GB)
What is "Space Invaders"?
This NES device designed by "high-tech wizards and gaming gurus" will increase the abilities of the existing pads that come packed with your Nintendo to add slow motion and turbo fire.
What is the BDL Turbo Blaster?
While it could be said that <blank> is a nice game that's well executed, what on the world is it doing on the Genesis? It was good on the Game Boy as <blank>, but as a 16-Bit entry it comes up short. Not of enough of a game for the Genesis. (Genesis)
What is "Shove It!"?
The Game Boy game is "Boxxle".
Another game oriented to younger players. If you are a fan of <blank> it could be of interest but the 60 levels offer little variety to hold a person's interest. The difficulty selection either makes the game too easy or impossibly difficult. Graphics aren't exceptional and the game gets boring quickly. (TG16)
What is "Cratermaze"?
A good example if how 16-Bit processors and advanced graphics don't make a good game. The look and feel of <blank> is unimpressive and the haphazard controls make this game much, much less than what it should have been. (Genesis)
What is "Zoom"?
Here comes <blank> again. I don't have anything against the Turbo version, it's the best yet, but I'm sick of <blank>. If you like to move around the screen and shoot things, you'll love this. (TG16)
What is "Space Harrier"?
But the screenshot at the top of the review is from the SMS's "Golden Axe".
When available, this device will plug into a standard Nintendo Famicom, the Japanese version of our Nintendo Entertainment System, and once plugged in, Game Boy games can be placed in a special port and translated to your television screen!
What is the WideBoy 2?
<Blank> disappoints me. I was a fan of <blank> in the arcades, which this approximates, but even with a dozen rounds of play and multiple events, I finished the cart the first time I played it. There are some near contests, but nothing spectacular. (NES)
What is "Bigfoot"?
The arcade game he compares it to is "Power Drive".
Of all sports, I like racing best and when a new one appears it better be good. <Blank> has good intentions and lots of courses, auto options. But it does lack a tachometer and the graphics while detailed, are designed in a very distracting way. There is no gas gauge and the pit area doesn't work. (NES)
What is "Al Unser Turbo Racing"?
Who knew Greg and Ed both love auto racing?
A very poor translation of the famous arcade hit. Choppy graphics and animation, as well as blips and bleeps for Sound Effects, greatly reduce the appeal of <blank>. The game also has awkward control but slightly above-average game play. Not was <blank> was meant to be. (NES)
What is "Tengen Shinobi"?
This shooter just doesn't have enough pizazz to hold your interest for long. The graphics look detailed, but they're awfully dark. The backgrounds also move slowly, making it difficult to simulate are really feelings of speed. A limited number of levels make <blank> much less than what it could be. (Genesis)
What is "Truxton"?
In issue 9, Quartermann reports on what would become the Sega Game Gear but says it will be called this and will play only SMS cards.
What is the Sega Micro-Drive? (It will also be shaped like a Genesis joypad and have a pop-up screen.)
This is nothing more than a boring maze game played in a first-person perspective. You wander around, kill creatures when they appear, and try to locate different objects. The two-player split-screens is nice, but for the most part it is repetitive and boring (TG16).
What is "Double Dungeons"?
<Blank> is nothing special. The concept isn't even average in execution and the game play, while borrowing on the original <blank's> theme, hasn't evolved. I expected much more, and this game didn't deliver. (NES)
What is "Target: Renegade"?
The original game was "Renegade".
An RPG driving game, all I can say to this already stupid ridiculous idea is that its very poor first-person graphics and almost non-relevant quest make this a game which could have been a blockbuster if it stuck to the arcade original. Instead it ends up being a real disappointment. (TG16)
What is "Final Lap Twin"?
<Blank> was a lousy as a computer game, lousy as an arcade game, lousy as an NES game, and remains lousy as a GameBoy game. Why spend time making a puzzle game that is absolutely no fun at all? <Blank> starts out too hard from the beginning and contains nothing to motivate play. (GB)
What is "Lode Runner"?
Quartermann reports this company is releasing a special interface board for the NES that is packed with Four Meg of RAM chips that connects to a standard CD player that will download CD games to the RAM board.
Who was Camerica?
What is with all the vaporware reported by "Quartermann" around Camerica? That BS is all over the early issues.
